He grabbed his things off the dresser, then wrapped his arms around my waist and led me out the room. We got outside and I threw my overnight bag in the back seat. I got in and pulled off with my nigga riding shot gun. During the ride, I would steal glances at him. Kashmir was an asshole but he was my asshole. It was weird but we brought out the best and the worse out of each other. I could tell our relationship wasn’t going to be easy, but I would weather the storm as long as I could have him at the end of every day.

“Where you want to go now?” I asked him. I handed in my two-week notice and my manager said it was unnecessary for me to work the extra two weeks. I was happy about that because I honestly didn’t want to go back. After leaving McDonald’s we headed to the nearest T-Mobile to get my new iPhone.
“It’s up to you, Zuri. It’s your world; I’m just trying to be in it.”
“Let’s go to the Rucker. I wanna ball,” I told him.
“You sure that’s what you want to do?” he asked, sounding skeptical.
“Yeah.” I smiled. “I haven’t played in a while and I really miss it.”
“Iight then that’s where we headed. You wanna go to the crib and grab you something else to wear?”
“Nah, I’m good. I can ball in this. I do need to go home and check on my mother. I would’ve called her this morning but you know someone threw my phone out the window.”
“I’ll get you a new one, don’t even trip. Yeah, let’s go see mama dukes real quick.”
“Mama dukes, really?” I laughed.
“Yeah. Just drive with your big ass head.” He laughed.
I rolled my eyes at him because he was so fucking goofy when he wanted to be. Pulling up in front of my building, Kashmir got out and said wassup to a couple of people that he knew. I used my key to unlock the door; I left the door slightly opened for Kashy.
“Ma!” I called out.
“Why are you yelling girl? And why didn’t you call me to let me know you weren’t coming home last night? I don’t care how old you are Azuri, you need to check in. I worry about you,” my mother said.
“I’m sorry about that Nala. She couldn’t call because I allowed my anger to get the best of me and I threw her phone out the window,” Kashmir said, walking in the door.
“That is still no excuse. It’s nice seeing you again Kashmir.” My mother smiled.
She moved around me and walked over to him just to give him a hug. I was glad my mother and Kashmir got along because if she didn’t like him, then there would be no us.
“What do you young folks have planned for the day?” she asked, sitting on the couch.
“Zuri think she can take me in ball. We ‘bout to go up to the Rucker and shoot some hoops,” Kashmir told her.
